Overview
All University students and employees are assigned an official University email address in addition to their ULID email address. This standardized format ensures clear and recognizable communication for all official University correspondence.
Benefits of Your Official University Email Address:
- Standardized Identity: Provides a consistent and recognizable email address format for all University personnel.
- Unique Identification: Each address uniquely identifies the user, based on their official name as registered with Human Resources (for employees) or the Registrar's Office (for students).
- Clear Differentiation: Helps distinguish between employee and non-employee email addresses.
Email Address Formats
Your official University email address will follow one of two primary formats:
1. Primary Identifier (for all users):
2. Name-Based Formats:
- Full-time Employees:
- first.lastname@louisiana.edu
- Students and Temporary Employees:
- first.lastname#@louisiana.edu (The # represents a unique digit or digits.)
Your ULID (University Login ID) is a unique identifier assigned to you.

Initial Email Address Assignment
The initial email address assigned to new employees and students will be constructed according to the rules outlined above. This process automatically assigns a numerical digit (if necessary) to ensure the address is unique and avoids duplication with existing email addresses.
